Believe it or not, I actually made a special trip and drove over 150-miles just to photograph this place – I had never really seen it before, and was only guessing as to exactly where it was and what it would look like when I got there.
As you can see, I wasn’t disappointed and the trip was certainly worth it, as this has proven to be one of my most popular images and has won many kudos and compliments everywhere I’ve shown it.
The exact location is Camp Orr on the Buffalo National River in the Ozarks of Arkansas – the closest towns are Mt. Sherman and Jasper.
It’s actually called “Twin Falls”, and the one on the left and the one in the middle are fed by springs up on the bluff and therefore run year-round. However the third fall – on the right – is actually a creek that runs besides the springs, but only flows when there’s been a bit of rain or wet-weather. It had been raining for days just before I took this shot (early May of 2009)
