Fishing at Ward’s Crossing

Fishing at Ward's Crossing

Ward’s Crossing is a spot on the Fourche La Fave (Foosh-La-Fay) River that you can find on most maps of Yell County, Arkansas – but don’t expect to find anything other than this bridge there (and maybe some local folks fishing from it).  It never was really a town or settlement, but was probably the location of a ford or ferry across the river when the county built this bridge there in 1905.  As far as I know, it’s still in use and you can drive over it if you dare – though I seriously doubt it sees much traffic.  One caveat: the last time I visited this area, the roads were a muddy quagmire that had me wishing for one of those Bigfoot-style 4×4 trucks … so those of you with Kias, I doubt you’ll make it.
