Ready for Repairs - April 27th, 2011

Normally I wouldn’t “feature” an image like this – because other than being kind of interesting (someone said it looked like a caterpillar), it’s not that great.  However, it has become extremely popular in other places I’ve shown it on the ‘net, and that’s probably due to the significance of it…

I live very close to the Hot Springs Services Center, which is where Entergy (the power company) dispatches it’s repair trucks from.  April 25th & 26th (2011) saw lethal thunderstorms and tornadoes in this area, and on the morning of the 26th a helicopter landed in the parking lot of the Services Center and took the coordinators on a tour of Garland County to see which areas received the worst of the damage.  The next day, these utility trucks from every surrounding country began to arrive at the Services Center until they overflowed the parking lot and begin to line-up down the highway – as the shot above shows.  By afternoon, they had all been dispatched to these hardest-hit areas.

This photo made the “Very Important Photos” section at Wunderground – and for the first time ever one of the Approvers actually made a personal comment on one of my shots.
