Days of Water and Thunder

Cedar Creek Thunder - 10-31-09

With all the rain we’ve had in Arkansas lately, our local waterfall fans will be in high heaven.  If you’re tempted though, I’d like to point out that ALL creeks and streams are at full-flow and many will be dangerous to cross – likewise, when the ground is so saturated many of the trails will become hazardous, especially in steeper areas!  No doubt Cedar Falls at Petit Jean State Park (shown above) will be roaring at full-flow after rain like we’ve had, but I’d call or otherwise check with the Park/Forest Service before visiting some of these places, and be careful!

The photo above was taken on Halloween Day back in 2009 after days of rain.  Cedar Creek was almost over it’s banks (and probably had been the day before) but the trail was still walkable – and in fact I met a tour-group on the way back.  A wider shot of the “bowl” of Cedar Falls is below…
