An old lightning-blasted tree at Mt. Nebo State Park, Arkansas.

I always thought this was an OK image – but I’m really surprised how well this one was received at CaptureArkansas.com … it’s one of my most popular and has been chosen as a favorite by many people!

Maybe they’re anxious for Fall to get here…

Golden Halloween for Petit Jean 2009

Autumn Along Roark Bluffs – 2009

These Autumn trees stand out against the backdrop of Roark Bluff at the Steel Creek Campground on the Buffalo National River – near Ponca, Arkansas.

Bard Springs Dam – 5-4-10

Bard Springs is a very secluded primitive campground in the Ouachita National Forest – west of the Albert Pike Campground and not far above Shady Lake. (See link to map, below.)

I had this place all to myself when I visited it on the morning of my birthday (April 5th 2010) – and the rest of the ONF too, it seemed. I understand this place fills up with hunters during late Autumn though…

Fish Scraps Only

Shady Lake is a real hidden-treasure in the Ouachita National Forest… If you draw a straight line between the city of Mena and the town of Daisy, Arkansas – you’ll find Shady Lake at about the half-way point between the two.

I decided to drive out that way early on the morning of my birthday – April 5th – in 2010, and had the whole place to myself when I took this shot of the little swimming and fishing lake that’s there. (The sign on the trashcan reads “Fish Scraps Only”.)

When I was a kid there were a lot more of these around – and they were for real, not just something for tourists to take photos of. There’s not many authentic ones left (in service, that is) but this one is for real and you can find it at the back of the old Bear Creek Cemetery – near Daisy, Arkansas.
