There are lots of “cone flowers”, and this one is the Pale Purple variety - Echinacea pallida - found growing in the Ouachita National Forest.

What a difference a couple of months can make! When I visited this area in early April of 2013, I noticed that there were no evergreens to been seen on this big hill atop Mount Magazine that marks the highest point in Arkansas – and it was nothing but bare trees and not a speck of green to be seen anywhere … see those shots in this post.

And now two months later in early June … it’s a jungle!
