Breakfast in Boxley

I took this shot exactly one year ago this morning – in Ponca, at the top of Boxley Valley in the Ozarks of Northwestern Arkansas.  The Boxley Valley is famous for it’s Elk herd, who have the run of the whole valley and are definitely the stars of the show.  This whole area is in the Buffalo National River watershed and under the jurisdiction of both the Forest Service and the National Parks Service.

Cave Mountain Homestead

Shack in the Ozarks -1

If you go to visit the famous Hawksbill Crag (aka: Whitaker Point), chances are you’ll take County Road #5 from Boxley to get there.  This is also known locally as Cave Mountain Road, and on the way you’ll pass this old homestead.  I don’t know a name for it or it’s history – it isn’t marked on any of my maps and I can find no other photos of it on Google Earth.   Another view below…
