The Ouachita River Whitewater Park is about a half-hour drive from where I live in Hot Springs – and I had no idea it was there until I saw it on a map (like the one below).
Located in Rockport / Malvern AR near the Hwy 30 overpass, it has nice paved walking trails both at the edge of the Ouachita River and above it; picnic tables; restrooms; covered pavilion; a boat ramp & more – and you can fish or play in the river if you want!
I first visited “Old Forester” on one of the last days of 2013 – and here it is on New Year’s Day of 2017. This is the remains of an old sawmill that was the focus of the long-gone town of Forester, Arkansas. It’s one of those weird places that I feel compelled to return to from time to time, and you can read more about it in my original post or by using the Forester tag.
Once a year or so I head up towards West Memphis to visit some folks, and always try to stop by the Wapanocca National Wildlife Refuge just north of there. (I don’t always get to – it’s sometimes closed due to flooding.) I have a photo of it in Winter that you can see in this post – and the top photo above is the same location seen in Spring, plus an extra shot that I liked. (Forgive the blown-out clouds – it was a bright afternoon and I exposed for the shadows…)
