“Party like it’s 1929!”
I normally do not post images that are not my own, but I couldn’t resist using this photo for my New Year’s post. It was taken by the famous photographer and explorer Frank Hurley, and this photo is “Mawson and men at Christmas dinner with menu and balloons, on board the S.Y. Discovery, 1930”
Hurley took some of the most tremendous photos I’ve ever seen, particularly of the ill-fated Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. If you’re interested, look for the book South with Endurance.
