Spring Says a Stormy Goodbye, 2011

Spring Says a Stormy Goodbye

With storms predicted for the First Day of Summer, I decided to seek a vantage point on Lake Ouachita in hopes of getting some “Sunrise vs. Storm Clouds” shots at dawn.  I took a few and haven’t processed them all yet – but this one seemed to stand out as particularly appropriate for the end of the Spring we’ve had this year …

… April and May saw killer storms and tornadoes – a few of which came very near the place shown here : The Buckville Day-Use Area on the northern shore of Lake Ouachita.  It may seem odd that a bare tree (I think it’s dead) could represent Spring-into-Summer, but to me it represents the damage these areas suffered – and the coming dawn of Summer is pushing away the storm clouds of our violent Spring.

Plains Coreopsis

Plains Coreopsis 6-20-11

Happy First Day of Summer, 2011!

You see these yellow wildflowers growing along roadsides all over Arkansas … it’s Plains Coreopsis – similar to Mexican Hat (see this post), but with less of a “cone”.
